Some Characters

Had a pip of a week and didn't get a whole lotta drawing done. I have a couple of things almost finished. . . but they aren't; so, I'll post these character drawings instead:

These were designed for a board game that's coming out pretty soon; I also painted the box cover, created a few more characters like this, and drew a slew of b&w cartoons for the cards used in the game. I'd point you to the website but I'm not sure if it's all ready to go yet and I haven't received permission. I'll just say that it looks pretty cool and I can't wait for it to come out.

The end.

  1. Nifty stuff man. Your definitely doing your own thing with the Sci-Fi style of the board game. Really rebelling against modern trends, and going with this sort of 70’s/ early 80’s comic thing? Or maybe I’m wrong? What’s the inspiration here?

  2. My stylistic intention was to give the art that "retro-sci-fi" look, along the lines of something you'd see on the cover of "Amazing Stories." I see what you're saying, tho-- there is a definite 70's -early 80's comics vibe, but that's probably because that's my childhood! Too many afternoons staring at Neal Adams, John & Sal Buscema, Gil Kane and John Byrne.

For this project I did a "realistic" painting for the cover, these kind of character designs, and a bunch of cards done in a cartoonier (sp?) style. Looking at them now they are clearly three different styles but they have the same "flavor," I think. I hope.

I'll post some examples later this week and you can tell me if I'm totally wrong or not.

    Thanks, Justin.
